The Trump train wreck I can't stop watching

You know, before this American election I never really took any notice of American elections, or politics, or who the president was. I wasn't exactly neutral, because whatever happens in America does tend to affect the rest of us, but everything seemed reasonably stable and we weren't living under the threat of global war. I'm old enough to remember there was a time when global war was possible, but not so old as to have seen it. Everything seems to have changed now with Trump. In just 2 weeks of his presidency, everything is different, and to many of us, everything seems worse. Trade deals cancelled, walls promised, religious bans enacted, heads of state insulted and hung-up on. In just 2 weeks!

This US presidency feels like a train wreck that you watched happen on TV from the time the train left the station. And I for one can't stop watching it. I don't know why, it's as if all the trauma and gore has me transfixed and I can't look away in case I miss something. I know a lot of other people feel the same way, especially non Americans who read the news headlines the same as I do. Do you think this is Trump's plan all along? He knows reality TV better than anyone, and how to hold an audience. Keep shocking people at high frequency and you'll hold the audience, only have to keep making the shocks bigger, or people get numb to it.

This week I'm going to try ease up on the Trump newsreel, and see what else is happening in the world. I don't know what else is happening really, but I'm sure something is.
